Case Study: Twickenham Riverside

Overview

Transportal can provide 3D and 4D visualisations to support the construction bid process. We work closely with the bid team and produce detailed logistics images and build sequences, which graphically describe the construction methodology and programme tasks.

We recently worked on a Kier bid for the Twickenham Riverside development.

Challenges

The project involves the demolition of existing mixed-use buildings and structures followed by the redevelopment of the site.

New structures include 45 residential units within two separate buildings, ground floor commercial/retail/café, public house, boathouse storage, floating pontoon and floating ecosystems with associated landscaping.

Additionally, the existing Diamond Jubilee Gardens will be reprovisioned as well as alterations to surrounding roads and parking. We were tasked with creating 3D still images and a bid presentation video to show how Kier proposed to carry out the works, on a site that is prone to flooding by the River Thames.

Solutions

We created a 3D model of the existing site, as well as the proposed site including all new structures.  Once we had created the two scenarios, we set to work with producing the animated sequence of construction for the entire site.

The final presentation video contained close-up images of flood protection measures, full site logistics set up, all the construction activities timed to programme, visuals depicting pontoon construction via boat mounted cranes and we even included imagery showing early handover of public realm space for use by the local martial arts club.

Conclusion

The stills and video we created we included within the Kier bid submission. Kier have recently been awarded the project, which is a great result for everyone involved.
